Garland Roses by Kathryn L.M. Reynolds is a contemporary romance between Joel, a famous rock star and Kathy, a doll maker with a stalker. The Doctor has been terrorizing her for well over a month with threatening phone calls and threats so real to the authorities involved and their families that they have removed themselves from the case. While at a family reunion, Kathy is volunteered to escort three of her nieces to a concert by the Garland Roses. It's love at first sight between her and the lead singer Joel when their eyes meet for the first time. Instead of a fleeting moment they meet again after the concert when Kathy falls in the street and is rescued by the band. Joel is immediately taken with Kathy and after rescuing her meets her again when she is returning home at the airport. When he discovers her problem with The Doctor, he enlists his cousin, Nicholas, head of one of the top private investigative agencies in the world for help.

Despite Kathy and Joel's incredibly serendipitous meetings which were definitely implausible in reality, it still somehow worked. They were very engaging characters and while not incredibly deep, I still found myself invested in their stories.

This book introduces a wonderful cast of supporting characters. There are the six other band-mates who are equally taken with Kathy as Joel is, Kathy's parents and siblings who just want to see her happily married, Nicholas and his security associates, the Garland Roses security team, and Kathy's brood of lovable animals. While the story drags at times in the middle to end of the book, it is these characters and their side stories which add depth to the plot. The intensity of the plot and the character of The Doctor also helps to keep the reader invested in the story line.
He is written in such a way that it adds to how serious and dire Kathy's situation is.

There were two main problems I found with this story. The first is that it is overly descriptive at times. In a few instances room decor and layout is described so much that I found myself skipping over it. The characters speeches are also very descriptive and at times are repeating themselves multiple times. The second issue I had was the formal languages the characters spoke in. It took me out of the story in few instances, however I enjoyed the characters enough that this didn't keep me from enjoying the overall story.

I would give this book a 3 out of 4 simply because while it did have many troublesome aspects it was still an enjoyable read and one I would encourage anyone who enjoys this genre to try.
