Lesley Pearce. Remember me.

Post by Neleh403 »

One of the most unforgettable books I have ever read. It follows the story of Mary Bryant (nee Broad) who is sent to Botany Bay on one of the first ever ships to go out. It tells of the horrendous conditions on board the ship and then the even worse conditions when they finally arrive in Australia. Mary was just 19 when she was first arrested for trying to steal a woman's hat.
The story begins with Marys arrest and sentenced to death by hanging. It then follows her through time in prison and the characters she meets. Her spirits are lifted when she hears she has been reprived and her sentence reduced to life at Botany Bay. A highly adventurous girl she looks forward to the journey and new life. This excitement is short lived once on board the ship and her fight for life begins.
An absolute must read.
