Fiction, fiction and lots of fiction, it is amazing to read something unusual, creative, absolutely different from daily routine.

Probably about 60% fiction, 30% factual (history mainly) and the remaining 10% would be made up of poetry, reference, cookery, travel & odd little books that have attached themselves to me over the years.

Mostly fiction for me too, apart from a couple of autobiographies (some of which contain a lot of fiction anyway) and some old vehicle repair manuals. I find fiction can be a great escape from the mundane day to day of normal life, I guess that's why most people read it.

I would say 99% fiction. I have a few books that are historical and some cookbooks.

I do have some non-fiction in my collection but the vast majority of the books I own are works of fiction. The ones that aren't are generally in either the religion or self-help categories.

My situation is opposite; most books are scientific. The local library, and its interlibrary loan program, give me access to fiction books I want to read.

I am a retired nuclear physicist, 80 year old. Right now I am involved in the controversial CMNS research. Condensed Matter Nuclear Science is a new name for what used to be called--and still is, unfortunately--Cold Fusion. My several attempts to confirm CMNS claims were negative. This will be described in a non-scientific book--a memoir--I just started writing.

Wow ... you just raised the intelligence level of the forums significantly. Guess we better not say anything to annoy you though!

I suspect the opposite is true. It well known that older people use their power of thinking, remembering, etc.

Have a good day.

P.S. And nuclear scientists are not necessarily smarter than other people.

I think you're being rather humble :D . I for one feel that I've been bumped down a notch or two on the intelligence ladder, lol.

I go through spurts. 50/50 is probably a good ratio. I'm a JFK junkie. I read all I can on him and on US History. I've been on a fiction kick lately though. It depends on whether I'm in the mood to learn a few things or if I want to escape reality for awhile.
