My favourite books as a child were the Mr. Tucket series by Gary Paulsen. I loved the action in the books and the imagery was so amazing. (I really like Western novels). My favourite it of he series was the first one.

I never read Matilda but I recently bought the book because I kept hearing how much of a classic it is in children's literature. I feel compelled to read it.

I think the first novel I tackled by myself as a kid was The Magician's Nephew (sorry, nobody told me the correct order back then!). I'll always remember reading the Narnia series myself and totally not seeing the Christian allegory. Mind you, I did wonder what the heck Santa Claus was doing in it...

The Hobbit was another one I loved. I didn't even try The Lord of The Rings for many years because I just loved rereading The Hobbit.

Funny because that one is actually first in chronological order based on Narnia time.

I loved reading all of the Nancy Drew books. Another great book was the Velveteen Rabbit.

My all time favorites were Velveteen Rabbit and Stella Luna. Even then my fascination with all things furry prevailed!

I didn't really get into reading until I was an adult, but I can remember having a mother goose boom my mom and I would read together. Then when I was between 10 to 13 I enjoyed the Goosebumps series.

As a child I enjoyed several different series. The first was the Fairie Realm series by Emily Rodda and Raoul Vitale, the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne, and the Katie Kazoo Switcharoo series by Nancy Krulik and John and Wendy. I enjoyed many others of course, but these were my favorite series to read as a kid.

I had a photo based book about cats that painted on canvas and walls. The concept was really original and I liked the stories about how the cats discovered their love of painting and the pictures of messy cats. I got a copy for my kids and they love it too.

A series I keep going back to is "The Enchanted Forest Chronicles" by Patricia C. Wrede. The first book, "Dealing With Dragons," is about a princess who doesn't want to be a typical princess and runs away to become a dragon's maid.

Looking back, it had a great theme of how you could subvert expectations and still meet them at the same time.

The Harry Potter series is all-time favorite. It is the reason why I love reading to this day, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I also really enjoyed Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. This was the first book that really opened my eyes that the world is a lot bigger than the bubble I lived in during elementary school.

I've read both the Harry Potter series and Number the Stars several times over the years.
