I'm attempting a social life.

Post by TowerJunkie »

Reclusive, socially awkward book worm here. I've been told recently that I needed to get my "nose out of a book" and make some friends, so here I am… hoping to make friends amongst people who won't yell at me for always talking about books.

A little about me: I started reading when I was about five, and never stopped. I've been obsessed with the idea of immersing myself into a world other than this for as long as I can remember. Of course, the real world demands at least occasional participation, so I do have a job (I'm an optician) and two beautiful sons (neither of whom inherited my love of books). Most my free time that isn't spent with my boys is spent with books. I'm not a genre snob. I can (and do!) read anything from sappy romance to horror to sci fi. My hero and love of my life is Stephen King. I won't argue with anybody who doesn't like him, because I understand the King isn't for everybody. For me, however, he's the bee's knees. His Dark Tower series changed my life, and I've gone so far as to have themes from his books tattooed on me.

I'll leave this at that for now. I really am looking forward to getting to know other avid book lovers, and maybe making a friend or two who doesn't roll his/her eyes when I mention the great new book I'm reading. Thanks for letting me join.

Welcome to the site. I am sure will have a great time here. :)

I have read a few of King's books and liked them.

I love Stephen King, too. I have to tell you that I went for years without reading anything from him until I read 11.22.63. He reeled me back in like a fish with that book. I loved it and then this last summer I read Under the Dome. Pretty good stuff going on with these two books.

I'm a would-be writer and he is probably the best writer in this century and when he offers up advice to writers, I listen. I read interviews with him, read articles about him, watch him on TV...he's just an awesome writer. I may not like everything he writes but I always appreciate his ability and his style. He's got a real gift.

hey! Welcome! And nice to meet you. :D And awesome! What exactly did you get tattooed?? And funny khudecek mentioned 11.22.63 I just got it on my kindle! haha. The other King books I've read most recently were Cell and On Writing. Awesome. And what are you reading right now? I literally just finished a book so I'm in that brief between books moment. In that amount of time I've managed to download three different books and stare at my 'to read' book shelf for about 20 minutes. I still haven't been able to choose just yet.... haha. I have a trip to the library planned tomorrow... so I get anxious about starting something I already own when I know I'm going to be checking something out. Which is silly because I can just check out books whenever. I don't make sense. Ramble ramble.
I love LOVE. <3

Skillian, you're going to love that book. It is awesome. I might read it again.

I'm going through and rereading books for some reason or another. Right now, I'm in the throes of the Fifty Shades of Grey again. I told myself I would never read it ever again but here I am, deep into the second book of the series. I'm looking at it with a different perspective now. I've gotten over the horror of it from the first read and am getting more out of the story now.

So now I have to add 11.22.63 to my list of books to read again. :)

The book is way off from the show. Definitely read the book. It is so much better and I'm sure the show isn't going to end like the book did.

Did you see Stephen King in Under the Dome on TV? He makes cameos in a lot of his shows. He was in the first episode of the second season, I think it was and he was at the cafe and asked Angie for some coffee. I always look for him when I watch his shows.

Yeah usually the book is always better, hehe. Yeah I saw his cameo and thought, never serve him coffee, since Angie died at the end of the episode!

Did you see his cameo in the movie "Salem's Lot"? That sort of creeped me out but mainly because the show is creepy and not because of him per se.
