Looking for A Specific Type of Young Adult Books
I am haroldstark, and as of this moment, I am the newest addition to the forum. I am a journalist and writer, not to mention avid reader when it comes to great fiction. So, I have been reading a lot of dark and intense books like A Song of Ice and Fire, and I need something lighter to smoothen the tide.
I am currently looking for books in the young adult fiction genre. The book that I am looking for should feature a group of young protagonists (no older than 15), with themes of friendship and bravery held in strong contrast against the darker forces of society. The book should not be oversimplified or purely black and white, but it shouldn't be too heartbreaking or graphic either. I need a combination of twists, turns and unexpected subplots with interesting characters. Magic and certain elements of fantasy would be a great added plus. A certain amount of humor like with the Lemony Snicket books, is also desirable. I enjoy a healthy amount of darkness, especially dark magic, but I need the conclusion to be a happy one. To further explain, I'll list a couple books in this genre that I have already read:
The Harry Potter Series (Of course)
Chronicles of Narnia
Miss Peregrine's Home For The Peculiar Children
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Any suggestions are very much appreciated.
