I would suggest just about anything by Ted Dekker then.
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for Thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. ~ Psalms 4:8
Also have you ever read The Last Policeman trilogy? It's by Ben H. Winters. The narrator is a police officer in New Hampshire who's working under a very unusual deadline: there's an asteroid headed towards earth, and it's going to do to humanity what the last one did to the dinosaurs. The first book is six months away from the date of impact; the second one if about six weeks; and the final one takes us up to impact.
― Ernest Hemingway
I have such a wide range of books I will read, anything but horror. Favorite authors are - Alice Hoffman, Dana Stabenow, Carolyn Hart, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Dorothy Howell, Robyn Carr, Susan Wittig Albert,
John Steinbeck, Robert Frost, and so on
