Post by Shellbee_Lynn »

I have read a few in my junior years but haven't seen much of them around.. If anyone has a pirate themed book suggestion that'll rock my boat that'd be great :D

Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton comes to mind. Not as gritty as I would have liked.
A very interesting book I read a few years back was called
Silver: My Own Tale as Written by Me with a Goodly Amount of Murder by Edward Chupack. It is a story as told by Long John Silver from Treasure Island. Not the same story, but a different one. This book is worth reading for the voice alone because the tone and the 'pirate talk' is done very well.

I mostly want to keep my eye on this for other people's recommendations.

I'm interested in further suggestions as well. I'm currently reading Treasure Island with my kids as a school requirement. We're all loving it. I'd really like to find something to continue the pirate theme when we've finished it.

There is this one book I love. It is nonfiction but still amazing. It is called The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard. It goes through the history of pirates and focuses on the Golden Age of Piracy.

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi. (An excellent and enthralling young adult book about a 13-year-old girl who is sailing home and inadvertently finds herself learning to sail and joining a mutiny).

If you're okay with comics, One Piece is a very long, ongoing bestselling pirate tale that's beloved across the world. It's an epic and has lots of adventure and heart

Pirate themed books I've read and actually loved are Daughter of the Pirate King and To Kill a Kingdom. TKaK is much more popular but I loved the DotPK much more.
