I would prefer a book than a movie . In a movie ,the story is changed by the director according to his fancy and we don't get the original story. I would firmly reject a filmy plot .

I prefer to read the book first if I can. I actually finished the Shining recently and then I watched the movie last night. To clarify I watched the Stanley Kubrick one and I was extremely mad about how the changed almost everything in the movie and I didn't feel like they stuck to book at all.

I would definitely read the book first. I will watch the movie after, just to see how it was adapted to film, but more often than not I'm disappointed. There have been a few good translations - like I thought the Harry Potter books did a good job of being movies.

I would definitely say book first except for the very rare occasion when the book is based on the movie and not the other way around. The book is the original story, that which was depicted in the exact way the creator(author) intended. Movies often have to leave things out or change things entirely to make it work so the book will give you the complete accurate picture. Also, I find that on the rare occasion that I try to read the book after seeing the movie its never as good. For some reason it becomes repetitive to me, when you read it first you see it come to life as a movie, but reading it after the movie is just like repeating what you already know. I don't know, id say its up to interpretation though that's how it is for me.

There is no deliberation on my part, book first always. I will probably go see the movie, but if I am in love with the book it may take me a while as I don't want to ruin my own imagination created idea of the book.

I like to read the book first because, generally, you form an idea in your head of the characters and settings before actually seeing them. It shows how you could imagine a very different person than the author and it might change the story's feel. You don't always have to like one more than the other, but often times I feel as though people don't like the movie but like the book as it played out differently in their reading of it!

I always read the book first and then watch the movie. To me most of the time the book is always better than the movie.

The only reason I would not read the book first is if I weren't aware there was a book to be read. Otherwise, absolutely, the book first everytime.

Um, it depends on which seems more appealing to me. Most of the time, I read the book first so I know how I'm going to compare the 2. In rare cases, I'll watch the movie first, but only in rare cases.

I always read the book first and then the movie. The movie cuts out a lot of the book. you miss out on a lot of great things

It really depends, but we shouldn't underestimate the power of moving pictures.
