I think Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series would make great movies. Well, provided they were handled correctly, but that's true for just about every movie.

One book that I would love to see being made into a movie or maybe even a mini-series would be “The Luminaries”.

For starters, it is the Man Booker Prize winner for 2013, by Eleanor Catton which made this the longest book (at 832 pages) and her the youngest author (at 28 yrs.) to pick up the prize (and much deservedly so). Sometimes when I pick up these award winners, I am inadvertently apprehensive that the book will never match up to the euphoria surrounding these prizes but this was a tremendously pleasant surprise.

At the heart of it this is simply a murder mystery set in 1860s New Zealand against the back-drop of the gold rush. The story starts with the arrival of a gold prospector, a certain Mr. Moody in Hokitika in New Zealand, only to get embroiled in the biggest scandal to hit its shores. Very soon, he finds himself in a room of 12 men who have a joint secret involving an opium den, a drugged whore, the ghostly ship, a dead drunk, a missing fortune and a young man’s disappearance.

And my personal favorite quote:
“Never underestimate how extraordinarily difficult it is to understand a situation from another person's point of view.”

I would like to see the trilogy Raven's Peak, Raven's Fall and Raven's Rise made into movies. With a good director, I think it would equal the greatness of Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings movies.

My favorite book of all time, The Shellseekers by Rosamunde Pilcher, would make a wonderful movie. I'm afraid it would be a "chick flick" of the best (or worst) kind, but the characters are rich, the settings beautiful, and the feelings invoked run the gamut.

I actually would like to see the Cape Light series by Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer be made into movies. More than likely, they wouldn't make it to theaters, but I think they would make cute tv movies, maybe for the hallmark channel.

The Count of Monte Cristo- THE REAL BOOK. The 2002 movie of the book was loosely based on the story. That book really needs to have a movie with ALL the characters. Maybe even a mini-series on Masterpiece theatre.
