I usually read the book and then the movie comes out. I prefer watching the movie first though and then reading the book. Sets myself up for less disappointment.

I like to read the book first because there is more detail to the story. The only time I saw a movie first was Sophie's Choice. I wish I had read the book first because the movie left out so much.

ALWAYS read the book first. It may spoil the movie but it is well worth it. I read Divergent first then saw the movie, which wasn't a good representation of the book btw!

I'm a book first person, just because I like to see how much the movie follows the original book

If the movie is based on a series of books I like to see the first movie, and then begin the book series. It is almost impossible for me to appreciate a movie once I know all of the things they chose to leave out of the plot.

Additionally, if I am introduced to a character by the actor/actress playing the role, I am more likely to be accepting of that casting decision than if I had a preconceived notion of what that character should be.

Once I've seen the first movie, and fallen in love with the plot and/or characters I'll binge read the books.

99% of the time, it's the movie. I watch the movie first and then read the book. And this is unlikely too since I do not like to read the books that have been developed into movies and especially movies that I have seen. But now Divergent was an exception and I have read Insurgent and currently reading Allegiant as well as I downloaded Hunger Games series to read :)

I find that whichever I do first is how I see the story so I'm not entirely pleased with the other version of things even if they've done a really good job matching the movie to the book. I am fascinated by the differences though and always wonder why they chose to do things that way.

I prefer reading the book first because when books are converted into films, the director sometimes makes changes to the original story line

I always read the book first. I'd rather have my mental picture of the story before Hollywood decides what characters and settings should look like for me.

I try to read the book first. However, there have been some cases in which I saw the movie first because I was not aware of the book's existence. This happened quite a bit when I lived overseas.

Book first, I just read the maze runner books purely because it was at the cinema, they turned out to be really good books!

Definitely the book first, then the movie.

I watch the movie first.
and the reason why is cause every time I read the book first I am always disappointed with the movie.
because normally they leave so much of the book out of the movies. example- I loved the book water for elephants but when it came to the movie my expectations were already really high. and it led to me being very disappointed, due to the simple fact some of my favorite moments from the book (important ones if you ask me) were left out.

Read the books first, of course. I have nothing against movies, unless it's Percy Jackson. They changed the whole thing!! Even the plot. ESPECIALLY THE PLOT. I prefer reading the books first because our imaginations are better and interesting. I think it's amazing how different a reader pictures a certain situation from the book.
