I am a slow reader. I can finish a book in a week and that is my problem. I am jealous of my friends who are telling me that they can finish a book in 1 day!

Can someone help me?

I ran into something kind of amazing yesterday. I have a friend who is an avid reader, and I loan her books to read. I loaned her Gone With The Wind Monday, its over 1000 pages long, I figured it would take her a few days to read it, I know it took me about two weeks to finish it reading an hour or two a day. She brought it back yesterday, she said she read it all on Tuesday. Thats got to be some kind of a record, especially since her eyesight is bad and she has a hard time seeing anything up close. Another time I had to leave for the day, and she stays at my place to keep an eye on things while Im gone. I left her seven old sci-fi anthology magazines to read and when I got back about twelve hours later she had read them all. She must have a computer brain.

I think there can be a problem reading too fast. For example, you may not pick up on certain facts or you miss out on "easter eggs" found in the book. Reading is a process, you may be able to read War and Peace in three days but you will miss all the small jabs Tolstoy makes at doctors throughout the epic.

It depends on what I am reading, some books I can just race through, others seem to take ages. I just finished reading "What Would Steve Jobs Do? How The Steve Jobs Way Can Inspire Anyone To Think Differently And Win" by "Sander, Peter". Now im reading "36-Hour Course in Business Writing And Communication".

I don't read very fast but I internalize what I read a lot better than most.

I agree, I can read pretty fast but I prefer to savor it and soak up as much as I can! Although it is fun to love books well enough to read again, its more fun to add more! =) Its no contest! Happy Reading!

It depends how focused I am.

Because I am a writer as well - I might become "influenced". One word or phrase could set me off and I am in another world. So anywhere between 3-10 minutes lol

Well I guess it depends on how I like the story(content) of the book. If its interesting, I will read on and on for hours until I complete the book otherwise I will have a lot breaks and it takes days for me to complete a book. I take around 3mintues to complete a page.
