I agree that the movie adaptation of The Godfather was excellent. I have seen the movie and read the book so many times that sometimes, in my mind, I imagine (and fully BELIEVE) that parts of the book are in the movie that were NEVER in the movie; and when I read the book, I imagine that I see the actors from the movie.

Read the Godfather, The Siciian and Omerta...all first rate...and loved the movie. They did an excellent job of bringing it to the screen.

I never knew this was made into a movie! I read this book in high school and was fascinated by it. Despite the fact you refer to the movie as being the "worst", I am still terribly curious.

"Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" was a complete disaster as a movie adaptation. Tom Robbins was a genius writer and it was sad to see what Hollywood reduced his ideas to. I can't wait to see what "Life of Pi" will look like.

The best - Holes

The worst - Eragon... It almost made me give up on the series!

Another good adaptation was Youre Cheatin Heart, the Hank Williams Biopic. It was really close to the book Audrey wrote, the movie left out a few things but still, it was one great movie. George Hamilton was superb as Hank Sr.

I recently saw The Cider House Rules, thought it was a let down. I probably would have enjoyed it better had I of seen the movie first.

Favorites: LOTR series (could have used some Tom Bombadil, though), Lovely Bones (That Tucci fellow really nailed it), A Clockwork Orange, which I enjoyed better than the book.

Eragon. By far. I almost walked out of the theatre. Harry Potter was great though.

The Hours is one of my favorite books as well as one of my favorite movies. They did such an amazing job with the film, including casting the phenomenal Merly Streep in the role of Clarissa. Julianne Moore plays Laura Brown and Nicole Kidman plays a fantastic Virginia Wolfe, and is almost unrecognizable with a prosthetic nose. It is such a profound and moving story, and I encourage everyone to read the book and then go and see the film.

It's funny you mention Harry Potter because this is such a unique situation for me. I have read the books and watched the movies over and over and I love them both. I think the characters they chose for the movies really helped me to overlook how much they left out of the movie. The books are good for details and the movies match up to the books, leaving out detail, but they are just so good to watch.

People always think that the books are better than the movie adaptations and I used to believe this too. Then, I read The Princess Bride. The movie is INFINITELY better than the book.
