Not too sure I'd describe Leo Tolstoy's War And Peace as 'lovely' but it certainly is an epic read.

My suggestions are:

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke (1006 pages)
The Pillars Of The Earth by Ken Follett (nearly 1000 pages)
The Covenant by James A Michener (1078 pages)
Centennial by James A Michener (1099 pages)
Hawaii by James A Michener (1130 pages)
The First Man In Rome by Colleen McCullough (1056 pages)

The current trend is to write a trilogy rather than a lengthy book.

If you like horror then "The Stand", "Under the Dome", "IT" and "Black House" by Stephen King are quite lengthy tomes! :D

The only long ones I can think of is Gone With The Wind or Georg Ebers books, he wrote historical romances about a million pages in his books.

Why don't you read a series?

Middlemarch is good.

Small font big font can make a book longer or shorter. David Copperfield for example is always in tiny font! Kindle them and then change the font to see a true length.

Series books is a great idea for you. Series books are divided into more than 1 part. This is lengthy.

You can easily read it and also enjoy it. Why you are not thinking of detective books?

the books mentioned by all of you are quite interesting. actually i have googled each and every one of them.

i did not write clearly about my intentions in the first post...

i want to read books which are lengthy but also deals with human psychology. for example i have read the following : anna karenina, war & peace, crime & punishment.

i hope you will suggest the books on the above criteria.

please don't mind for myself clearly stating what i want to read ...

thank u

Human psychology? Show me a book that doesn't! Well i say Grapes of Wrath andEast of Eden might hit the spot. Steinbeck was keen on marine biology and used to say he was a naturalistic writer: his characters and their struggle within the human condition were not due to him, they were like creatures in a rock pool.
I quite like Emile Zola's work and Germinal is the most famous, but Therese Raquin scarred my mind with its observation of human psychology. Brrrr. Read at your own peril!

The last fairly long novel I read was about a year ago, Jules Verne's Mysterious Island, its about 600 pages. I tend to read shorter books or short stories.

If you stopped insisting on 1000 pages per book, you could take a look at the Eragon's series by Paolini...

I just happened to think of the Falconhurst series by Kyle Onstott that came out some years ago, there were four or five books maybe more. They were about slavery in the old south before the Civil War. Mandingo was the first I believe, then there was Drum, and I think there was a Master Of Falconhurst, anyway they were all connected with pretty much the same characters. You might want to check them out. I think Ive seen them at Amazon.
