Not too sure I'd describe Leo Tolstoy's War And Peace as 'lovely' but it certainly is an epic read.Vardhan wrote:i have recently completed reading war and peace. it was lovely.
My suggestions are:
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke (1006 pages)
The Pillars Of The Earth by Ken Follett (nearly 1000 pages)
The Covenant by James A Michener (1078 pages)
Centennial by James A Michener (1099 pages)
Hawaii by James A Michener (1130 pages)
The First Man In Rome by Colleen McCullough (1056 pages)
The current trend is to write a trilogy rather than a lengthy book.

I quite like Emile Zola's work and Germinal is the most famous, but Therese Raquin scarred my mind with its observation of human psychology. Brrrr. Read at your own peril!
