Not yet but I've thought about it a couple of times. Sometimes some of the newer covers they come out with are amazing! Take for example my Agatha Christie hardbacks I found at the thrift store. I would be completely willing to start replacing the crummy paperback versions I have with those beautiful hardbacks. Assuming I wanted to collect them. I'm not sure on that yet or not but I did end up getting all 4 that were donated.

Rarely, but still I do this, LOL! It's got to be a book that I REALLY enjoy & know that I am going to read over and over.
I search very carefully for the cover/copy I want the most in order to avoid this, but sometimes... :reading-7:

I don't think I have ever bought a book because I liked a different cover. I might if it was a book I wanted to display? Maybe if I have a bigger house with a place for an actual bookshelf.

Nope, never done that. And I don't I think I ever will, because books don't come cheap in my country and in the end, the contents are more important than the cover.

Only once! I had the movie versions of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I found a boxed set of the trilogy and The Hobbit, it was a nice shiny box and the books were more old school. It was only about $10 too!

So far I have never done it. I have bought regular books that I already had on my kindle but that was more because I wanted a physical book to read, rather than something electronic.

Oh, I refuse to buy a book if I don't like the cover. I'll look up the original cover and hunt it down. My favorite book in the world when I was growing up: The Seventh Princess came out with a new cover. It was awful. They didn't base it on the story at all, the princess was vacuous, and it ruined the book. I agree with a lot of you, I hate the movie covers. So many times the original is much more interesting.

Yes, I have done this on one occasion. I had a collection of the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. My copies had the original covers, which are mostly just a face on each book. I could not find Specials with the original cover, so I caved and bought the newer, more medical cover. Later, I found a copy in a secondhand store with the original cover. Needless to say, I bought it to complete my set with matching covers.

Yep, I am indeed guilty of doing this quite a few times actually. I usually do it with my favourite authors. I will buy a signed first edition that I will never read. I will then by a cheap paperback version to read without worrying about damaging the book. Also if there are different covers for different countries, or special limited editions I sometimes will get them as well. However I am not a millionaire, and will only get multiple copies of books, as I said, if I really love and collect the author. :)

Sadly I've read so many books over the years that I accidently bought them again due to the new cover! I realized part way in that I'd already read them!! It used to drive me nuts.

I need those in my life. I have the American versions, but I really want the UK versions for the different vocabulary and I really like the Order of the Phoenix's cover better.

I have never bought a book a second time for a different cover. The cover doesn't really matter to me when I buy a book. I only care about actually reading the book. I'm not a collector, just a reader.
