That was funny :lol2:

That will go down as the funniest version I've seen of Cinderella.

Everland by Spinale, Wendy. This is an amazing Peter Pan retelling in the art of steampunk. The story is based in London and the downfall of humanity was brought on my bombs and disease. Peter Pan has the answer. As always there is a little bit of romance, but the book focuses on the idea of the young being forced to grow up sooner rather than later. It's a good read.

Welcome AlwaysWorthIt to the conversation. I will definitely take a look at Everland, it sounds interesting. I haven't read too many peter pan retellings, so that should be something new for me. Thanks for the recommendation.

Check out Gregory Maguire, He's done a bunch of retold fairy tales (he wrote the book, Wicked, which the Broadway play is based on). I'm including a link for a list of his books, he revisited a number of fairy tales. I own a lot of them myself, so I feel comfortable recommending his books to you.

For fairy tale re-tellings, you could check out the anthology Terribly Twisted Tales.
I also love what Briar Rose did to the Sleeping Beauty story.

For other retellings, I love most of Gregory Maguire's work (though I'd skip the Alice one), especially his twist on the Wizard of Oz story. I also liked Beddor's The Looking Glass Wars. Bespelling Jane is another book with four short stories, each of which put a paranormal spin on Jane Austen tales.

Hello SparklingOne and Christina O Phillips and welcome to the conversation. I have never actually read Wicked before, but I definitely should. I will add it to my Want to Read List. I will also look into the Terribly Twisted Tales and Briar Rose. Alice and Wonderland has never really been one of my favorite fairy tale stories, but I will look into the books all the same. Never know, I could come across one I like. Are the paranormal Jane Austin tales scary at all? Anyway, thanks for the recommendations guys. I will definitely check all of these books out.

I just finished Before Midnight by Cameron Dokey and it was really great. I think you guys would enjoy it a lot. There is a very interesting twist that is much different from the original story line of Cinderella.

CSimmons, I did not find them scary, but I really don't ever find things scary, lol.

Amagine, what retellings have you written? I wrote a Red Riding Hood retelling and would like to try to write more.

I just went to a con this weekend and learned about two more retellings I thought I'd share with you all:
Collen Oakes - The Queen of Hearts series (a prequel)
and
Danielle Paige - Dorothy Must Die series
I am adding them both to my to-read list.

Yes! I love retellings of fairy tales. Have you ever read something by Robin McKinley? She wrote two adaptions of Beauty and the Beast that I've read at least three times each - one is called Rose Daughter and the other is Beauty. Her writing is very lavish and detail-oriented, so the pace is slow, but it's SO worth it!

Hello again Christina O Phillips and welcome to the conversation Margzipan. I looked at the Queen of Hearts series and it seems like it could be interesting. Both of those Beauty and the Beast books by Robin Mckinley sound good as well. Have you read anything else by this author? Thanks for the recommendations guys.

I have read a few other books by Robin McKinley. Spindle's End is a re-telling of Sleeping Beauty, but if you want to start with something shorter to see if you like her writing, I'd suggest The Door in the Hedge, which is a collection of short stories (all re-tellings of popular fairy tales). The Hero and The Crown and The Blue Sword are two of her most well-known books, but I've never personally read them.

Let me know if you end up reading anything! I'd love to hear someone else's thoughts on her books!

I agree with everyone referencing the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. If you enjoy sci-fi and fantasy, this series marries them beautifully.

Hello Katiestardis and welcome o the conversation. I am definitely interested in trying out the lunar chronicles. I have seen them around stores before but never gave them much though. I will definitely have to invest in a couple of them now. Hopefully it will turn out to be a brand new series to get excited about.

Hey Amagine, classicaltwist, Gingerbo0ks, Dh_, DATo, AlwaysWorthIt, SparklingOne, Christina O Phillips, Margzipan, and katiestardis. I was wondering if any of you guys have ever read any of the books from the Fairy Tale Romance series by Melanie Dickerson? They sounded interesting, so I was just wondering if any of you had read any.
