I am reading three books as i often do. the first book is by Elmore Leonard - The last Stand at Sabre River; the second is The Last word by Ben Mcintyre and the third book is a Dummies book on Proof reading. Nobody quite writes like Elmore Leonard. Extraordinary.

I read somewhere the Tin Drum is related to A Prayer for Owen Meany, I' m having the same problem with it.

Having read both The Tin Drum and A Prayer for Owen Meany, I don't see a connection other than that main characters were both pretty unusual kids with some slightly strange powers. Fran, I am surprised you are having trouble getting tothe end of the Tin Drum, as I thought it was such a great book. Lolis, stick with John Irving - I have read many of his books and they are all quite quirky and enjoyable.

  • Compact Vance Integral Edition volume II, by Jack Vance - a great investment, but all Jack Vance books apparently coming out now as e-books.
  • The Patchwork Girl of Oz, by L. Frank Baum - re-read classics!
  • The Age of Apollyon, by Mark Carver (as part of a review for review agreement)

I finished The Bath Fugues (Brian Castro) on the weekend. Not one I would recommend, although some of the prose is very fine. I started The Rainbow by D H lawrence last night. I love Lawrence, and the book immediately felt comforting and familiar. I am looking forward to getting stuck right in.
Today on the bus I finished The Lord of the Flies, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I think I was about 12 when I read it last, which is a very long time ago. Tomorrow I start Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons as my transit read.
