I am reading Never Look Away written by Linwood Barclay. It was honestly a random buy; I had never heard of this author before. I came across a small shelf of books written by him that was being sold at an incredible price from work so I picked up the first book, read the blurb and thought 'why not.' (Although I'm kicking myself now for only getting the one because the sale ended soon afterwards.) I am currently just past half way through the read and I am loving it at the moment. It is one of those suspense/mystery/thriller books that absolutely toy with your emotions. I do recommend reading it.

I am currently reading Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma. It's a 'taboo' read based on incest. I have read reviews about it and many individuals have stated that Suzuma doesn't base her novel on the right or wrong of incest. It's a neutral read and I'm really looking forward to how she will end the novel!

I just finished reading Off the Menu by Stacey Ballis. I'm very into "foodie fiction" (or foodie memoir... or anything with recipes, including cookbooks... or just food words :P ) right now, so I have been all over the place-- murder mysteries with recipes thrown in, lighthearted foodie fiction, just ordered a copy of the 1983 version of Nora Ephron's Heart Burn.

While I like Stacey Ballis' voice, and I did enjoy Off the Menu overall, I feel like the 3 books of hers I've read (also Good Enough to Eat and Out to Lunch) are a bit... formulaic. The emotions and thoughts of the heroines are often relatable but their situations and experiences typically are... not. (Guess that's what makes it fiction, though, eh? :))

I found myself really liking both of the men in this story, even if they were both completely over-the-top in their own way so that they became more of a caricature of two types of men. What irked me the most was when the author tried to have certain characters speak with accents-- they didn't ring at all true, and I would have started a drinking game for every extra 'r' she added to the word "amor" (or any other word ending in 'r') to indicate a Spanish accent... but I would have blacked out and not been able to finish the book! (And the recipes are at the end, so I had to make it through!)
