I was just trying to read "The Secret Life of Bees" because I've heard 5-star reviews from basically everyone I've talked to, but unfortunately, I just couldn't get into it! It's on my unread shelf at the moment. We'll see if I can try again later.

I am about the tackle The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas. This was made into a brilliant TV series a couple of years ago (which I would happily watch again), so I am looking forward to reading the original novel at last. The premise - at a suburban barbecue, a man slaps a child who is not his own. This event has a shocking ricochet effect on a group of friends and relatives, who are all directly or indirectly influenced by the slaps.

Loved that book Fran - fascinating use of language that takes a bit of getting used to.

Now reading The Ring of Darkness #1 : Elven Blade by Nick Perumov, not sure what to think of it, it´s basically a Lord of the Rings "fanfic-sequel" written by a russian author in the 1990s, and the idea of a sequel to my all time favourite book written by the "wrong" author feels so, so wrong, but I try to think of it as fanfic and see where it goes.

The Bronze Horseman Trilogy has taken over my life, again. Paulina Simmons is amazing, she brings history, war and love to such a vivid life that I find myself unable to function in normal daily life. I completely ensconce myself in her literature to the point of detrimental divorce threats from my husband.

But, for now, Tatiana and Alexander await my attentions.
