I like paperbacks. They are easier to handle, cheaper, and fit better on my book shelves. Since they are smaller I can fit more on my shelves too :)

Old books, 50+ years, children's books, I prefer hard cover. Newer books I prefer paperback. I like to stick them in my baby's diaper bag or my purse. And I love to read in the bathtub and paperbacks are lighter and easier to hold.

I also kind of like the way it looks when you have a very well used paperback, that has had multiple tape surgeries and spine glue-ons. The look of a book so well loved that you can't wait to find your own copy to see what is so fantastic about it! The kind that I can pass down to my daughter and tell her "look, mommy read this so much it fell apart." I believe that just as we take in what we read, the massive amount of time we spend with our hands and eyes and souls on the pages puts something of ourselves back into the book.
Somewhere out there is a world we never knew existed.

Languages never spoken.
Colors that should not be.
Lives never opened.
Eyes that never see.

And then the page is turned, a universe created.

We are gods.

I like to read hardcovers when I've got time but paperbacks are so much easier when I'm on the go.

I would prefer hardback when ever possible. But if the one I really want to read I would eventually get in paper.

Hmm it really depends for me. If I want to be fancy and have feelings of nostalgia I go for the Hardcover. But if I know I'll be everywhere with a book, that if there is a slight chance it might be dropped or placed in an unusual spot then I will choose paperback. Basically, I like to keep my hardcovers clean and protected.

I prefer paperbacks because they are cheaper but when I get a series I get a combination of paperback and hardcover depending on what's available in the store.

I'd rather have hardcover books only because I feel it last longer then paper back but I do have both types. When it comes to a series I like to have them all one type either all hardcover or all paperback.

I always used to think paperback, but have got into hardback recently. Too expensive to buy new, but they're often going cheaper than paperback in second hand online stores.

I love a nice hardback, but I usually buy paperback to save a few dollars. Although now I only seem to be buying ebooks!

I absolutely agree about the portability of a paperback. I prefer hardbacks for books that I want to keep, as they will hold up against time. With that said, I find the sleeves on hardbacks very annoying and always remove them while actively reading the book. I actually prefer the Advanced Reader Copies as they are pretty durable.

I tend to go for paperbacks more often. They are very convenient to bring everywhere.

Hardcovers look better but paperback is easier to handle and carry around so that's usually what I go for.

Hardbound with all the niceties in the cover's design

But I do love a well-thought of cover regardless
