I really don't think I have ever had a preference. I'm not a "snob" (no offence to OP) but I read what is available to me.

have to agree with most of you cost is a factor but when thinking about the longterm life of the book hard cover gives less hassle.Harry potter series books were great in hard cover. But guess paperback just needs extra tlc in covering with laminating plastic and a cut out piece of flip file board. :)

I prefer hardcover because it's more durable, but if I am hurting for money, and the book is in no other format, then I will choose paperback.

Paperbacks because they are less expensive and take up less room. Would I be a heretic if I suggested I get Kindle books for same reasons?

Reading a paperback is easier but I love the look of hardbacks on my books shelves. I get annoyed by the fact that I have a few series that are a mix of both.

I like both but I hate the sleeves on hardbacks and usually throw them away especially if the book underneath is blank.

Hardback are too heavy and hurt when you drop them on your face aha. I buy them if I want them on my shelf and can't wait for the paperback.

This depends on personal opinion. Some think paperback is good as it is easier to hold it, it is not as bulky, and is easier to bring around. Some like hardcover as it will not be easily crumpled/torn, and can provide some kind of backing. I like paperback more though.

Always paperback. I read in bed a lot and reclining with a heavy, hard book above my face? That sounds dangerous . . .

This depends what setting I'm reading the book in. If I'm sitting in a single location, like a library or comfy reading chair at home, I prefer hardbacks. However, if I'm taking the book on the road to go camping or in a backpack for long periods of time or something, then I prefer paperbacks.

Hardcover, but it has to have a book jacket (even if this does make it more vulnerable to damage).

Paperbacks are good if I don't have much Money atm, but I just love the look and the feel of Hardcover books. I also find them easier to read.

This for me really depends on the book or series. Harry Potter is a series I need to read in hard cover but I prefer paper backs for Jack Reacher. If im at a library sale I normally go for paper backs but will consider a hard cover. But I'm not against an ereader if I'm traveling or reading in bed!

I prefer paperback because it is easier for me to hold. I find hardback books hard to hold, which makes it difficult to read with. Paperbacks are also lighter which is another reason that I prefer them.
