Although there is no grain left, and the grapevines, fig trees, pomegranates, and olive trees have not yet produced, yet from now on I will bless you.

-Haggai 2:19 from the Good News Bible Today's English Version
This verse embodies God's promise to me that whatever the circumstances I am in, however hopeless they may be, He will see me through.

"Because hope is a knife that can cut through the foundations of the world,” said Sumi. Her voice was suddenly crystalline and clear, with none of her prior whimsy. She looked at Nancy with calm, steady eyes. “Hope hurts. That’s what you need to learn, and fast, if you don’t want it to cut you open from the inside out. Hope is bad. Hope means you keep on holding to things that won’t ever be so again, and so you bleed an inch at a time until there’s nothing left.”
Seanan McGuire ~ Every Heart a Doorway
Grim, but accurate in many ways.

But here's a counter quote:
What do you think fairy tales are? They are a reminder that our lives will get better if we just hold on to hope.
Once Upon A Time.
Pronouns: She/Her

What is grief, if not love persevering?

Grief is just love with no place to go.

My favorites keep changing. I've just been reading Raymond Chandler and two quotes that stick with me are, "A dead body his heavier than a broken heart," and "He was lighter than a butcher's thumb."

Faber est suae quisque fortunae
The quote is by Appius Claudius Caecus and translates as "every man is the artisan of his own fortune". I love it and think it was a really powerful idea from a man in an age far more steeped in superstition.
It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.
