I really love covers that set a mood the mood for a story. I do not tend to judge a book by its cover, but I do become interested in a book based on if it looks interesting in the library, bookstore, etc. I also love minimalistic fonts. They add a nice touch to most covers :D

I always have fun with the covers for children's books! I also really enjoy books that use classic artwork as cover photos.

Ditto to both of those.

I just saw a really cute children's cover. It's a kid on a bench, next to a very large cat, and it looks like a scene out of a pixar movie. It's awesome 8)

I prefer covers that tell you something about the book

Agree, Nina. The cover should also hint at the mood or theme of the novel (assuming it's fiction). My book covers were drawn as I had asked, a "noir" flavor, correct for the novels' tone. I wasn't writing a "spoof" mystery either, so I didn't want a cheery cover or something with a stereotypical shadowy guy wearing a trench coat or a "maiden" in semi-dress and in peril. ha ha

While I do agree that a good cover on a book is a nice touch, do forget, you can't judge a book by its cover!

I've seen tall ships on several ya titles this year, and, while I don't mind it, I think one was more successful than the others.Image

The ship and water are uniquely depicted, an eye catching cover for certain.

I've fallen hard for this cover. There's so much to see, and it compliments the premise so well...even the font used for the author's name.

I only wish I could find an excerpt or sample  Image

I think the cover art can set the tone and stage of a book sometimes more then the brief summary can. Like the saying "We eat with our eyes first" I think most readers pick books by the cover art as well. If I am attracted to a cover art, it can often lead me to finding out more information, whereas if I am put off by the cover art, I will move on.

All the covers for the Shiver trilogy and The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater are very appealing. Also the books in the Shiver series had the same color ink for the words as the cover. The first cover was blue and the ink was blue, second was green and the ink was green, and the third was red with red ink!
Those are the only books I have ever read with different color ink, makes me desperately want to own a copy of them. :P
