What reason others say they don't like to read most heard

Post by inabook86 »

IT'S BORING! How is it boring i ask? you can literally do just about anything in books. Maybe that's what really separates us from each other the non imaginative and the imaginative . Or maybe you need to find a book with the right story to pique interest. The reason alone dumbfounds me. I've never been one to find reading books boring. Unless its a text book for school now those could reach snoring levels. But that's reading pushed at you I mean free time anything you want to read about reading.

It's Boring, Busy people can't stick their heads in books, and I have a real life. Mainly the excuses that I hear.

It isn't real and a waste of time.

I hear people say all the time that they don't have enough time to read.

That it's boring.
That's what I mainly hear. I blame schools for not giving kids enough opportunities to pick their own books for an English reading assignment. Maybe if they did that, people would not really associate reading with reading something they have no interest in and writing a report on it. Especially if they're kind of lost on what's going on for whatever reason.

People always say that reading books is boring. That makes me mad because there's a whole other world when you engulf yourself in a good book. It's like nothing else matters in the world at that time that you're reading, and you can just lose yourself in a good book.

That's exactly how I feel when reading a book. I don't really get mad at them, but I still don't understand why someone would think that reading is boring.

I've heard the "it's boring" and "I don't have time" excuses quite a bit. However, I've met a few people with learning disabilities who shy away from reading because it makes them feel dumb. I feel sorry for these people, as they were probably turned off to reading by misguided teachers and mean-spirited peers.

I also heard the "it's boring" and "no time" excuses. I have relatives who say they can't sit still long enough to read. I think some of it is a lack of imagination.

I've heard:

"It's boring"
"I don't have the attention-span"
"I would rather watch the movie"
"I just don't have the time"

I believe I can safely say that if those who have said these kind of comments, if they found the right book, then those excuses would fade away. I believe there are books for everyone, you just keep looking and actually give them a fair chance.

I've heard a lot say it's easier to watch the movie. Ridiculous.

I know plenty of people who read a lot of shorter pieces - magazine articles, internet articles, etc.

But finding time for a full book? Nope. Pretty uncommon.

I think it's also "uncool" to bring a book somewhere, in a way that bringing a phone and playing Angry Birds isn't.

You never see someone at the mall reading a book, and I distinctly remember being made fun of in high school for reading during lunch.

So I suspect that part of the reason people don't read is a social stigma. This isn't an answer most people would be willing to give.

This is actually from the perspective of a writer:

Not wanting to be influenced by what is read and then unintentionally steal the author's idea in one's own writing.
