Audible ~ Official Review by csimmons032

Post by csimmons032 »

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of Audible.]

Audible audio books, off of Amazon, provides a service in which you can download digital books onto your phone or tablet. Audible offers over 150,00 books that you can download in a matter of minutes. All you have to do is create an account and sign up for the free trial. After you have created an account, you have to download the Audible app onto your phone or tablet. Then you get to choose two free books, which will automatically go to the library in your Audible app. The Audible app can also be downloaded onto your reading devices as well, such as a Kindle. If you decide that you don't like Audible, then you will still get to keep the books that you received during your trial. You will have one month to try your free books and decide if Audible is right for you.

If you are not a fan of reading all the time, or just don't have the time to read but you would like to, then Audible is the perfect choice for you. For me, it was easy to download the app and instantly save my book. It took maybe two minutes, at most, for my book to download. The app is easy to get to and I didn't find any difficulties navigating the Audible store. The books that were shown for me were based off of books that I have searched in the past. They try to recommend books that you will enjoy best, which is another thing that I liked about it. Another thing that I liked is how many titles they offered. You can choose just about any book that interests you. I typically go for love stories or mysteries, which is why a list of authors I might like was ready for me. I loved that I could listen to it directly on my ipod. I spend so much time on my ipod that it made it easy for me to listen to my book.

I am probably not going to keep my Audible account because I am not a fan of audio books. I don't like to have someone reading to me, and I like to have the book actually in my hands while I am reading. For some reason, I just can't concentrate when someone is reading to me. That is the only reason I am not going to keep the account though.

If audio books is something that you enjoy, then I would definitely recommend Audible. You will be able to choose from hundreds of books from your account. They will be available to you directly from your phone, ipod, or any other tablet that you wish. You can listen to your audio books anytime and any place that you want. If you like to listen to audio books in bed, in the car, while your exercising, or during any other activities, then this is the perfect solution for your.

I give Audible 4 out of 4 stars. I gave Audible 4 stars because my only issues with the audio books was personal issues. I did not see anything wrong with the program itself. So please do the free trial and see if Audible makes your life any easier.

Nice review but wanted to let you know that there are a few other ways to enjoy Audible. With an Amazon Prime account you can get a free Audible book credit each month. I usually try to pair my free credit with whatever Kindle book I am reading that month. This allows me to listen only (in the car), read only, or enjoy immersion reading (which I think is a pretty cool experience) depending on your mood. I have to agree that I probably wouldn't use the Audible service on its own very much. When you consider these extra options, it might make that Audible account a little more attractive.

I'm not really one for audiobooks either so I didn't think Audible was really for me. But I didn't know you could get a book credit each month with an Amazon Prime account. And I do like free things ;) So I might have to check it out.

Nice review. I've never heard of audible and definitely prefer reading a book myself but my husband would much rather listen to a book than read so I may check it out. Thanks for the review.

Thank you guys for checking out my review and for the suggestions on how my review could have been better. I am happy that my review has encouraged some of you to check out Audible. As I mentioned, I don't particularly enjoy audio books, but anyone who does I think will really enjoy it. Thanks again.

Isn't this official review in the wrong section? Shouldn't it be in the Reviews section instead of General Book Discussion?

I have to say that I love my Audible app! I do drive a lot and that's when I get to listen to my books with the app and its great that it's connected to my kindle app! I love being able to read and then switch to listening when I have to drive and then back to reading. I can see how for some the account may not be worth it but for someone like me who does spend majority of my time traveling, the account is wonderful. I found it great for using my free credits when a book that is newly released, its crazy expensive so I get to get for free with my credits from my amazon prime account. I also find it really neat that if I let my credits build they do a buy one get one kind of deal. Like when I have 2 credits I get 3 books! I also love free things so this works in my favor as well! I loved your review and can see how it doesn't work for some people but I just wanted to put in my point too because for me I LOVE IT!

I think once the review team looks over the review, they put it in whatever category they think it needs to be in. I only think this is how it works, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks again to the others that have posted for this review. I do agree that it could be helpful when driving, especially if you like listening to the audio books. I usually enjoy listening to music when I am in the car, but I can see how audible would be a good way to go as well.

Good point! No matter where it's posted, I enjoyed reading your review! A few members of my in-person book club listen to audio books. One woman, in particular, likes to listen while driving.

I put this in the general reviews section since it is not really a review of a book but rather a service.

Great review. I am glad, above anything, that this service exists for blind people. I've never even tried an audio book and don't think I'd like one. But I'm glad the option is out there!

I completely agree with you zeldas_lullaby, and I thank you for commenting on my review. I also love that this option is available for people who just don't like to read, don't have the time, or for blind people as you suggested. It is good to know that there is always options out there, even though this isn't an option I would go for at this time. Thank you again, and I appreciate everyone who has commented on my review.

My first and only book "read" with Audible was Gone Girl and it was amazing, because I could finish the book while I was cooking dinner, changing diapers, watching sports with my husband  While I still enjoy the beauty of turning a page, I would recommend everyone take advantage of the free trial and see if it is for them!

I agree with you WishesGranted. Audible is definitely a good choice if you have other responsibilities that come before reading. Was Gone Girl any good? I have been trying to decide if I want to read it or not and I can't make up my mind.
