Favorite Foreign Books

Post by Ty0005 »

Is there any books that you've read that you particularly like from foreign soil?
Mine is easily The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle By: Haruki Murakami.
Such a fantastic read.
What's your's?

OOOH That's my favorite Murakami book too! Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End Of The World is also one of my favorites. I'd also throw in No. 6 by Atsuko Asano, but it's more well-known as a manga.

Murakami is like an idol in Japan! Everyone knows him. I've only read one thing of his, but everything he writes has a Japanese movie to go along with it, and I'm sure I've seen some at some point and didn't know it was based on his story. I heard he actually translates his own books from Japanese to English so that they keep the meaning he wants for the story and nothing gets "lost" in translation. Apparently he's a really fluent English speaker.

So, as for me, so the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo books count? I thought those were pretty good, minus all of the Swedish politics stuff.

Oh! I forgot: I kind of love manga. It's one of my guilty pleasures. Only, I don't really feel so guilty about it anymore. So I guess it's my not-guilty pleasure?? No, that's just weird.

Oh, that's easy for me because I am Hungarian, thus all my childhood reading were foreign books. My favourite Hungarian authors are Dezso Kosztolanyi and Gyula Boszormenyi.

Arthur C. Clarke is one of my favorites. Just about all his books are tops.

A Second Wind by Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. It's a true story that inspired my favourite French movie ever, Les Intouchables!
