For the life of me I can't remember the title or the author
I remember the cover...
It was like a red spiraling staircase?
Anybody remember this one?
I don't remember a book but I remember a movie that was a modern Beauty and the Beast retelling. It had one of the Olsen twins in it, playing a witch. It was surprisingly good. I want to find it again and buy it. Also can't remember the title. Maybe Beastly. Or something like that. That sounds right! 8)

I completely agree with this! I also like Gail Carson Levine, the author of Ella Enchanted.

Beastly is correct...and it was based on a book...yes I read the book.
It's a kick because the author incorporated forum chat in the book.
It's driving me nuts not remembering that book though.
The cover was a rose blossom that changed into a staircase...

I just remembered a book I read ages ago, called Just Ella. It's sort of like the "real" story of what happened with Cinderella. It's like the fairy tale, but minus the magic. I remember it being really good.

I also liked the Gregory Maguire retellings. Mirror, Mirror and the Wicked Series were fun.

Melanie Dickerson does fairy tale retellings! I've only read her book The Captive Maiden so far, but it was pretty good. She has at least five books that are fairy tale retellings I believe!

I would say the Lunar Chronicles! I love how it's a retelling of fairytale with a scifi twist to them!

My favorites are definitely Alice In Wonderland adaptations. Since I was little I've adored the books, and retellings are just my absolute favorites. I'm anxious to read Splintered; any reviews or opinions of it to give? Once Upon a Time does some good TV adaptations of classic fairytales. Neil Gaiman comes to mind when I think of this, and some more young adaptations are the The Sisters Grimm.

I love Splintered! It's a perfect evolution of the Alice story.
Not really a retelling though...more of a continuance.

Christina Henry has a take on Alice coming out next year...called Alice
Sounds a bit like horror??? Not really sure...not much out about it yet.

I so agree about loving anything Alice related.

Okay, you totally didn't say that. I just made you say it. Hahaha.
But I just wanted to get your attention because I remembered something from this thread!
That book, Cruel Beauty, was/is nominated on Goodreads as a book of the year! I forgot which category though. I voted for it though, just because you liked it. Or wanted to read it? I forgot which. Whatever, if you say it is worth reading, it's probably worth it.

I LOVE the Splinter Series. It's beautiful. It's got just the right amount of creepy and nonsense to make it work. I would love to find more Alice books like these. I read the Alice In Zombieland series (great!), but as stated above, there isn't much in common with Alice's story in them.

I love modern retelling of fairy tales! There's the book Grim which is written by several authors and then there's Splintered which is sort of the retelling of Alice in Wonderland which I absolutely adored and the books are my background on my laptop.

I like modern retellings. A good author who does this (although mainly for children and young adults) is Gail Carson Levine.
