I used to listen to music whilst I read in the past, but after having some of the best scenes in books ruined by certain songs, I decided to only select some genres of music for a certain genre of books.

Lately I have taken to listening to Pandora's Classical for Studying. It is nice, soothing piano music.

I prefer to have no music whilst reading but I do love music so often make book playlists of songs that relate to the book that I can listen to after.

No, I don't listen to music while reading. I find it distracting unless the music is without lyrics.

It depends! I really prefer quiet when I read . However, I do enjoy listening to the music of Nature while I read. I do enjoy white noise or the sound of rain while I read though, maybe it's just me but I find it calming and not as distracting

Yes. I love listening to Indian filmy songs. For a thriller, I love listening to fast paced songs n for a mystery, I love orchestral music.

I prefer silence while reading. If I'm trying to drown out outside noise, I'll listen to rain.

I turn on the music when I start reading. A great sign that it's a good book is if I don't notice when the music stops. I'm simply too immersed.
If the opposite is the case, and I keep turning the music back on (and maybe even wait for it to stop so I can do something other than read the book), then... well... yeah...

I used to listen to music while I read, but I can't anymore. I don't even really like classical music in the background. I can sit in a public place and read, but I think that I get so absorbed in the music that I don't read as fast and have to reread.

Silence is best, but Vangelis' El Greco suits reading well.

I listen to music very rarely while reading. I think I prefer silence most of the time.

I've tried listening to music while reading and the result is not good for me. So most of the time when I read, I prefer to read when there are no grating noise around me.
The sounds of nature is quite preferred.

I prefer silence while reading because if i put some music on however smooth it is I will find myself singing along and that is a distraction to me.
