Personally my books are generally the same size and the only book that I ever read that was more than 600 pages was Harry Potter. (cheesy right) But I was interested in what other people have read :)

The longest book I've ever read is "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy, coming in at a whopping 1,392 pages. I read that a few years ago and have tried to find a longer book ever since, but to no avail. :)

Not focusing on number of pages but rather the story line itself, i would have to say "The Valley of Amazement." This book should have been titled "The book that Never Ends."

That would be Gone with the Wind. I spent most of a day reading it, and was rather tired by the end. I suppose it wasn't necessarily the length that made it long, but the fact that it took me almost all day to read it, and it would have taken longer if I hadn't been somehow convinced that reading it in a day would be worth bragging about.

I think Gone with the Wind was the longest. I could be forgetting one though.

I think this is such a good question, because sometimes I read books that are long in page count, but feel short because they are so interesting; but other times I read a book and it feels like it goes on forever, even if the page count is less.

I remember we were assigned to read "Wives and Daughters" by Elizabeth Gaskell for school, and it's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this thread, because all I can remember about this book was that it was LONG; but I just looked it up, and it's only 468 pages! Harry Potter's Order of the Phoenix is 896 pages, so I know for a fact this wasn't the longest book I've ever read, even though it felt like it! :)

Anna Karenina was 691.
The Idiot was 582.
Gone with the Wind was 695.
Fall of Giants was 848.
Housr of Earth 853.

I am certain I have read thousand pagers, but nothing is really jumping out at me from the shelves right now.
Adventure...one part stupidty plus two parts perseverence....yeah, that's me!

"Shantaram" by Gregory David Roberts - 933 pages :D
Though some bits in the plot gets stretched, it is a page turner and I loved his way of story telling

Atlas Shrugged at 1069 pages. Or the Great Book of Amber at 1258, but that's ten books in one volume.

Does the Bible count? The edition I read is about 1600 pages. Yes, I've read 'em all.

And several of Dickens' novels come in at 900-1000 pages.
