I like a happy ending but I prefer for an ending to have a twist. Something you didn't see coming. When I read a book like that, it stays with me for a while emotionally.

I think happy endings are beautiful, but I feel like sad endings are more real. Books that have sad endings, especially good books, just prove to me that I'm not alone in my sadness. Also, I love that books can take pain and turn it into something beautiful.

Happy. I like a sad book but I prefer a happy ending.

Well it depends. I like ending that leave you satisfied not completely left up in the air.

This is a hard question....deep down I like happy endings. But the realist in me is a butt and likes to point out that it's probably the least likely realistic ending....so if it's a sad ending, but makes more sense than a happy ending would, I'm pretty satisfied with that too.

I cannot deny that I am a happy ending kind of girl. I love a happy ending although sometimes there are some great ones with not so happy endings.

It all depends on the book. Of course, happy endings are the best. However, I believe all books need a conclusion that suits its plot. For instance, many people argue over whether or not the ending of The Giver by Lois Lowry is happy. Some say yes, some say it is too ambiguous. Good endings can often be sad. They can be happy in the sense that the mission or the story came to an end, but that ending can still be sad to readers who stick with a series. I apologize if I do not make much sense; I do not wish to spoil endings for those who have not yet read some books.

I definitely prefer happy endings over sad. I read a book recently that had a sad ending, and I give 2 out 4 stars, where if it was a happy ending, I probably would have given it at least a 3 out of 4 stars. The reason I couldn't bump it up to 3 stars was because of the sad ending.

Only happy endings for me. Or at least 'Happy For Now'. I can maybe deal with open endings, but with sad - no way. That's why I read every review, all spoilers and look at the ending of the book before I start reading.

The best ending for me is almost always happy. I like reading because it transports us to another world. Our real life and everything that surrounds us is usually sad. People have tragic stories, life is not fair. War is not far from home, children die everyday from starvation, families are broken, people strive for a fleeting life of money. Many real stories have bad endings. So, most of the time, I want a happy ending in a book. It's an escape from the sadness around us.

It depends! Basically, the tone that the book sets leads to what to expect. If I'm reading a Kristin Hannah novel, for example, I want a happy ending and know that I'll get it. But if it's something more the tone of a Gillian Flynn novel, I would be satisfied with a sadder ending because that's what has been set up.

I love happy endings, but I also want it to have a twist. I was some sort of surprising thing to happen. Happy endings make the book seem complete, though I can appreciate sad endings.

They both have their merits, and neither are as enjoyable without the other being an option. I prefer to find out which it is by reading it.
