Sad is just so heart breaking. I'm already upset the book is over AND it has to be a sad or tragic ending? Nope. My heart can't take it.

I hate sad endings, but know that, sometimes , the sad or tragic consequences are inevitable. I think we're conditioned from childhood to expect the happy ending - which is only right for little ones, I suppose. (I know this point is debatable, so I won't pursue it.) But fiction has to reflect the realities of life, which is not always so kind.

Happy for sure! Though, I have read a book where the main guy died, and it still wasn't a bad ending. It was kinda foreseen since it was a zombie book.

Happy. Sad makes me feel hollow and empty inside.

So.... I just finished this book... and at the end, the two main characters died. I think it was intended to be sad ending, but I my reaction was more like, "Thank goodness. They were idiots." I felt kind of guilty for being glad that they both died, but I just really didn't like them.

I prefer a realistic ending for the book, above all. Sometimes that means it will be sad, sometimes ending happily with warm and fuzzy feelings. Really depends on the book.

Happy, of course! Unless the the book is part of a series with a sequel in the works. Then I'll just hope things get better in the next book!

if the book is apart of a series then i prefer it to end suspenseful because that will make me more interested in reading the books that follow it. If it is just a single book then it's hard to say. I guess it all depends on the storyline, but for the most part I would say that I do prefer a happy ending.

Whatever the books calls for at the end, but I do lean towards a happy ending for the most part.

As much as I enjoy happy endings, I like books that end the way you wouldn't expect them to. Even if it is "happy" compared to what the outcome could have been, there needs to be a twist to get you hooked. Leaving me, the reader, feeling as if I didn't see it coming only makes me want to read the book again or read more work by the same author. Lately books have become so predictable. I need a change!

I like a book that has closure. I hate reading a book and getting to the end and feeling like its not finished. That being said, I'd rather the ending be moderately happy depending on the genre of book I'm reading

Happy. I hate sad endings. I usually feel like I wasted my time when the book ends sad.

I usually like happy endings. It doesn't have to be happy, as in all tied up in a bow. It should just provide some closure and have some hope at the end.

I usually like happy endings otherwise I can not stop think about the book. I think I have some kind of an obsession for sad ending books. And I love surprise endings too
