What are some good books to send to someone who is in jail?

You're to be commended for standing by your wife - the best (and probably only) way for someone to recover from a severe enough mistake that results in jail time is to have someone interested in their welfare and assisting them on the right path once their sentence is over.

I second the suggestion of sending the first book from a few different series. The other thought is to choose books from the same genre as her preferred TV series or favorite movies - if she enjoys watching it, she might enjoy reading something similar.
