When I read a book that has romance in it, I need the woman to have a powerful sense of agency, otherwise I get fed up very quickly. Since I mostly read sci-fi and fantasy with romantic subplots, I've found I prefer the stories where the woman is a warrior, or someone who can very easily handle herself in a tough situation. I also really like it when the story is about more than just the romance but has a strong plot that compels me to keep reading.

I have never finished a solely romance fueled novel, for me it has to have a mix of romance and another genre to be readable.

The most important part of a romantic is the cover. Romance book are normal pick up because that is the need or desire or the person reading the book. If the cover fit the image of what a person wants or what they are look for they would pick it up instantly and start reading it to be that person in the book.

Honestly, if it's a straight romance, I never pick it up in the first place.

I hate it when the girl is constantly surprised by like everything the guy does. It feels like the only emotion she has and it's awful.

Sometimes the cover is enough to do it for me. I don't need to be looking at a borderline pornographic cover. Also, if it's just page after page of sex and there is no plot outside of that, I will lose interested pretty quickly.

Romance stories are my favorite. When I am looking for a romance story, the main thing that catches my eye is the cover. If the cover looks appealing then I read the book. I do not even read the summery because I feel like that gives away the excitement of the book.

I don't like any romances. I find them distasteful in general.

I pick it up if it's in my way. Then I put it down someplace where it's not in my way anymore.

I tend to like romance as a side plot. I am more into Urban Fantasy or Dystopian Fiction. If I do read romance I will put it down if the plot relies too heavily on misunderstandings or miscommunication. That drives me nuts! I don't put up with that kind of stuff in my own life why in the world would I want to read about it in a novel? Ugh. I will continue reading if it is fresh and feels authentic and romantic. I am not a fan of very graphic sex scenes. I feel like there is an art to how much they reveal. I also tend to stay away from a book if the cover has a mostly nude man with bulging muscles holding a woman.

The cover and the title are what first draw me to a novel. After that, it's the summary. It depends on my mood as to whether I'll buy/download the book or not. Sometimes I'm in the mood for the ultimate cliche romance novel. However, if I've read a few of those recently, then I will likely pass up the book and look for something new or with a more unique plot line, or I'll move to another genre or sub-genre. I will also put down books by certain authors. If I've read a few books by an author and I don't like his or her writing style, or the books are too similar, I often won't spend the time (and money) reading another book that's likely to sound just like the others.

The cover and the blurb on the back are really the make or break for me if I pick it up and decide to read it. However of it gets super sexual too quickly I don't like it and will quit reading. Also I still want a strong woman character I'm sick of all the "I just need a man to take care of me" crap. I want depth!

I genuinely can't read a romance novel. I can about stomach it in other novels, but so often it just feels unnecessary. I'm a complete sap, but I can't have it in my fiction.
