The Tell-Tale Heart could top the list. Also recently I've been on this youtube channel CryReads if I remember correctly. The short stories he reads and records are also very good.

I don't know about the best short story of all time as I haven't read nearly enough but I greatly enjoyed The Necklace and The Yellow Wallpaper. I must say I wasn't fond of Metamorphosis! I will be checking out a lot of these posted on here though, thanks!

No, its about the astronaut who left his dog to go to the moon and the dog died while he was gone. Sad story, I read it to my wife and she bawled her head off.

Umm i do not understand how short (sorry) but i will go with "The Tell Tale Heart" by Poe it goes perfect with "The Scarlet Letter." But the shortest story i ever read was "mice and men" by steinbeck.

"The Tell-tale Heart" and "The Masque of the Red Death" gave me chills! They are masterfully written and are definitely my two favorite classic short stories.

To me the best short story I've read would probably be The Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury.

Certainly glad I was able to read this in school.
