I can usually get past it. I haven't really run into anything that bad.

Sometimes "sexist language" like that described in the original post is just bad writing rather than overt chauvinism.

If the sexist language was constant, I would definitely put the book down. As a woman, I don't appreciate being objectified (or seeing other women be objectified, for that matter). I do realize that some men have crappy attitudes toward women, and that's just the way the world is, but there is only so much I can take. I don't have to endorse that mindset by tolerating a poorly written book.

It depends on the book and the context. If it is apart of the story, of character, then it doesn't really matter because there is a reason for it. However, if you find that the sexist remarks are out of left field and make no sense to the character or situation that does get under my skin a bit. That is more the author's reflection of women, not a character.

I think it depends on the overall quality of the book. If the book is good, I generally ignore it, but if the book is subpar, I just think its gross.
