I doubt it. I am a huge bookworm so not having that in common with person I'm dating would be hard.

I could only if we had other shared interests. Even if it's just a TV show we both watch or something. But it's hard if they just NEVER read.

My boyfriend reads comic books like they are going out of style. I have to push him to read books.

I could date someone that doesn't share my passion for reading. This is what I have friends and a book club for. I like that reading is something that's all my own. If my partner does read, then that's a bonus.

I have never really thought about it but yes I did. We are now happily married and is doesn't really bother me because it is like we even each other out.

I have dated and married a non-reader. He respects my reading addiction with no problems. He is a gamer so it works out very well for us.

What about this Indian lady who dumped her husband who couldn't answer a maths question?

I suppose it depends on the individuals involved, what's being read and how long they spend reading or not reading.

I could not at all. I love talking about books and non-readers tend to just get a glazed-over look whenever I talk to them about books. It would limit conversations and same interests greatly.

my husband was not a big reader when we first met/started dating. but as we have gotten older, he has started reading every night before bed. he probably reads more than i do now. so you never know how people can change.

I am alright dating someone who doesn't read, as long as my reading habit won't be a problem to them. It would be great to have an avid reader as a partner i think. I can imagine pulling an all nighter just talking about some classics, wonderful experience indeed

Sure, I think so. You may hate me for saying this (it is a book club, after all), but there is much more to life than just books.

Fortunately, the love of my life is a bookworm. His preference is non-fiction, however, so we rarely share views on books we are reading. However, simply reading is not a measurement for me. In my 77 years I have found that it is the quality of the reading material that reveals a person's character, for the most part.

I am currently dating a guy who wouldn't pick up a book to save his life. It doesn't bother me. It's just part of having different interests. He is aware I love reading an I am aware of what he loves to do. It has never caused conflict, just part of two people having different interests.

My husband is not an AVID reader, and he really only likes a very specific subset of YA books, but I still believe I married well, book-wise. His reading preferences--and pretty much all of his other preferences, as well--are practically opposite mine, so he challenges me to step outside my reading comfort zone. And even though he doesn't always like the books I read, specifically those of the nonfiction sort, he's always willing to discuss (or at least, let me monologue about) the books I'm reading.

I feel like I could, if they have a quiet hobby that they can do while I'm reading, but I'd love to be able to discuss books with the person I'm dating!
