I like reading about non-fiction... a lot of historical stuff, but more recent historical. Native American history (much of which is in the last few hundred years), is something I have really enjoyed.

For me also, business and personal finance... it is the accountant in me :)

A subjet? Is that an underwater propulsion system or the prototype to the Sukhoi Superjet?

Seriously though, ancient history, particularly of the Romans, Mesoamerican and Andean empires, Easter Island, and pre-modern China.

I read a lot of non-fiction about animals, the outdoors, and farming. Stuff like Into Thin Air, anything by James Herriot, Marley & Me, etc.

Definitely the paranormal or anything that is unexplained. The thing with this subject is it can neither be proved or disproved.

I lover a grisly, bloody serial killer thriller. The more "sick" the killer is, the better :-) I like it even more if there is some paranormal thrown in as well. Not too sure what that says about me....... A light love story is okay once in a while but I can not stand anything like Nicolas Sparks or other dramatic, emotional type books.

I have 1 brother, whose favorites are Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and "believable" sci-fi. I have 3 sisters who 2 of them read the same kind as me. Only one of us likes very tame who dunnits. My dad was never a big reader and Mom likes very tame romances. So I guess you could say 4 out of 5 children prefer violence...LOL (even though I'm the youngest of these "children and I'm 47!! )

Ant, if you want to read a really bloody, graphic blood and guts book about mass murderers, cannibalism, all kinds of sick s---, I recommend Sabine Baring-Goulds Book of Werewolves. It tells of sickos from ancient times to the mid 19th century. Some of it makes modern sick stuff look like Sunday school lessons. Great book.

Survivalist fiction. I love to read about people having to survive on an island or other harsh conditions. Pioneers are a fascinating subject. PAW fiction is good as long as it is not about zombies. I loved The Road, Alas, Babylon, The Hunger Games and The Stand.

I am fascinated by Apocalyptic type books where the world has suffered some type of either natural or man made disaster. I'm fascinated by how the ones left behind cope with life and what happens to what's left of the world! every author's perceptions of such an event is different and I like to read on the different outcomes resulting from that. Just to name a few I've read: W.R. Forstchen "one second after" ..Robert McGammon's Swan Song...Justin Cronin's The passage and of course "The Hunger Games Trilogy" which was absolutely fantastic!

Speaking of apocalyptic books....I don't remember the name or author, but i remember several years ago reading a book about nature fighting back against all mankind had done to it. A small group of people left the main area of "civilization" and traveled as far away as they could to get to an area that was totally natural. It was the first book I read of that type and I loved it. I couldn't put it down, just waiting to see what new surprise/revenge nature was going to throw at them.

I too love to read fantasy or paranormal stories. It seems the genre is really expanding. I loved "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer but I don't typically get into Sci-fi or alien stories. I like mysteries as long as they don't have a political undertone. I prefer stories that take me away from everyday life and it's problems.
