Recommendations please! Like Hunger Games for adults

Hi!

I have just finished reading 'The Hunger Games' trilogy, and I quite enjoyed it. However the romance was a bit blah and as I am a fully fledged adult, I can deal with a more adult themes...(Well, written for adults even!)

I don't mind gore!! It doesn't have to be gore either! I'm rambling! I just like books that make you think. Maybe Sci-fi too...

Anyay, could anyone give me the name of some recommendations if they know of anything similar (especially if it's written in the first person, I like that) but aimed for adults? I have got 'Darkly dreaming Dexter' to read next, as I think I might like that!

Any other books would be appreciated. Thanks, Loz :)

Thank you!!

Errrrm yeah.... sorry for saying too much or whatever has brought you to reply to me. I asked for some recommendations if anyone has any...I put it in the title....so people didn't read it unless they were willing to give any...I'm sorry, I just thought a book club would be the right place for this...obviously not!

Well, I've heard of a movie similar to Hunger Games. I haven't seen it myself yet (but I've been meaning to for a while), but I've heard its great.

It's a Japanese movie called Battle Royale. Basically its about the government pitting an entire year 9 class against each other in a fight to the death. It looks pretty good, so you might want to give that a go.

Also, not entirely sure about this, but I think it was also based on a book so you might want to read that.

The Millenium Trilogy: The girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Thrilling, exciting, danger and mystery. It's not a Sci-Fi drama though. But It was EXCELLENT>

Try the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. Very good series that really grabs your attention and that is really hard to put down. Put in the future like the hunger games only a lot different!

Suzanne Collins got her inspiration for Hunger Games from Battle Royal, so I would start there, as I've heard the movie is awesome, but I haven't seen it or read the book yet.

I also liked the Hunger Games quite a bit, so I would recommend A Song of Ice and Fire, as I absolutely loved them. Brilliant writing, the only bad thing is that they are very long. Not very similar to hunger games, and it is fantasy rather that sci fi. As mentioned above, the Millennium series is amazing, but it is even more different from the Hunger Games than ASOIAF. For first person you could try out the Fever series, I didn't like it much, but my sister loved it. It is also fantasy and it may be something you like, the main character is quite similar to Katniss (only read the first book)

No she didn't. If you read the official illustrated movie companion, you'll see that one night she was flipping through channels and saw a newscast if the war and then a reality program.

You're right. Battle Royal is still supposed to be pretty good though. (at least the movie)
