Eating Bull

  by Carrie Rubin

The First Ten

Because Eating Bull was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted reviewers have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book. The reviewers even read at least the first 10 pages of the book. They have each written a short review explaining why they plan to read the whole book or not based on the sample they read and other aspects of the book. Their feedback is displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten.

Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.

I have already read the book since it was the BOTM. The cover is lovely and the blurb sums the plot well. The official review further enhanced the book. The book was rather slow-paced at times, but I found it a good read overall and loved it. The opening drew me in immediately and so did the balance of the book. Each chapter is told from a different point of view and I liked that. I have the book already, and I certainly recommend it.

Had I not sampled the book, I wouldn't have read it. It doesn't belong to a genre that I usually read. However, having read the sample, I found it interesting. I liked how the author described the characters' thought processes and feelings. However, I would have liked to know more about the characters' personalities and backgrounds. The book seems to be professionally edited and has a favorable Onlinebookclub review. I will read this book further at some point in the future.

I already read this book several months ago, but I will give you my thoughts about the cover, summary blurb, and sample pages. The Amazon summary is well-written and gives a clear sense of the plot and themes of the story. Also, the subject matter is unique and intriguing for a thriller. Although the cover artwork is eye-catching, I initially thought the book was going to be a non-fiction book about dieting or overeating. While it's true that the cover mentions that the book is a thriller, the small font of the subtitle is not noticeable and kind of blends into the background. The sample pages are well written and appear to be professionally edited. The author writes in a nice, conversational style and the main character is well drawn in the beginning pages.

At first glance, the cover art of this book is awesome, it immediately attracts the eye and makes you want to find out what this book is about. I think the plot of this novel is unique and very relevant. After reading the first 10 pages of this book, I can see that it is well-written and professionally edited. I intend to read the rest of this novel because it seems very interesting and the plot is something I have never heard of before.

The cover and title makes me think that this book will be a bit too gruesome, but the genre (thriller/crime) and the interesting blurb makes me interested in the book. Taking into account that this book has many positive reviews and the OBC reviewer seemed to have enjoyed it, I might have sampled this book on my own.

Based on what I read, the book does seem to be professionally edited. I love how captivating the beginning is when Jeremy is so fed up with his grandfather's comments about his fat and has visions of killing his grandpa. I think the information about Jeremy's groin is a bit much, which means that this book will be a bit graphic. However, due to it being a previous BOTM and its positive reviews, I plan on reading the rest of this book.

I thought this book was a good one when it was the OBC Book of the Month several months back. Others did too and there were some great discussions about it. The writing style is easy to read and fast-paced and the subject matter very timely and thought-provoking. This book appeared to be professionally edited and error-free.

The cover and title are originally a little confusing, but after reading the wonderful review of the book on OBC, this seems to be the perfect title and cover art. This is definitely the first book along these lines that I have seen. Making a serial killer who targets specific victims based on their appearance makes it hard and also very real. I love this idea! I think the book seems well written based on reading the sample. I am normally not interested in thrillers, but this one has truly caught my attention. I think this would be a great book to keep reading.

This book seemed to get a very positive response when it was Book of the Month, and frankly, that's a great cover, so I was interested. The reviewer also had a lot of fascinating things to say about the plot and its characters, so I was doubly intrigued. After reading ten pages, I didn't want to stop, so I read the entire sample instead. I would love to finish this book. It's going on the list.

I have owned this book for a while now, and I have every intention of reading it at some point. The topics of obesity and nutrition while living in this fast-paced, take-out world are ones I am all too familiar with, and the opening pages only add on to my excitement about reading this story. I sense more themes in there: poverty, making choices, societal pressures, etc. The grammar and mechanics are flawless, so combined with the gripping story as shown on these first few pages, I'm sure that I will get into this book in no time.

Another impressive book of the day. For sure after reading the preview and the reviews by many readers this one I had to download. I have for many years experienced the many different ways that people find to bully others. It never is right, but we do need to stand against it. This novel does a wonderful job of presenting this problem. Even though it is fiction. It could be real. Carrie Rubin has a wonderful writing style that is a pleasure to read. Looking forward to finishing this one. I did purchase and download my copy. I was glad to see that it was picked for a book of the day. Congratulations to the author. For writing a book that will make people think.

I have already read this book, and it was a good read. The mystery was fair, and the premise intriguing, and I would recommend it to fans of the genre. The cover has to be among my favorite parts, it's what first drew me to the book, as well as its specific genre.

I can't say I will be rereading this, so I must say no, but I enjoyed reading it the first time.

Based on the cover, title, blurb, and customer reviews, I probably would pick this up based on curiosity. I think this book sounds really original and unique. There is a combination of murder, mystery, and the obesity crisis. After reading the first ten pages, I actually do like the writing style. I think it is well written and can get emotional and make me sympathize with the protagonist which I am sure is the author's goal. I don't think I will finish reading the rest however. I get really annoyed reading about "fat shaming" when there is an obesity crisis and I just don't think there is a " diet conspiracy" so I don't think I am the target audience for this book.

The quality of writing in the first ten pages of this books hints at mastery. Every character seems three dimensional, and the hook of the plot is sudden and intense. I will buy this one, and put it in my ever growing list of books to read. And I feel like from reading reviews of Eating Bull, that I am not the only one who is going to be reading it.

I would have read this book - the premise seems extremely unique and interesting, and the cover is awesome! After reading the book, I decided that I would continue to read it. The character seems extremely well developed and the writing was interesting and powerful, enough to evoke my emotion and make me want to read on. The writing seemed professionally edited and although I did not read an official review, my decision was not affected.

I'm happy to see this one listed as book of the day, as I read it a few months back when it was Book of the Month! It's hard to give a fair opinion on the first ten pages, as I have already read and enjoyed the book! It comes highly recommended from me, and may be one I read again someday.

I would have sampled this book based on the blurb and the OBC review. I thought the concept sounded really interesting. After reading the first ten pages, I will be purchasing and reading this book! I have been wanted to read it for a while, but the price was a little high for me. With the BOTD discount, it was within my range. On that note, I really liked the style of writing. The book also seemed to be professionally edited. Again, the idea of a killer singling out obese victims is very interesting. I'm excited to finish this book.

I read this book earlier this year when it was BOTM. It was interesting and well-written. It had aspects to it that made you stop and think. It wasn't the typical type of book I usually read, but I would think others would enjoy it also.

When I originally saw this one I'd assumed it had something to do with the hunting of bulls and eating their meat in delicious burger form, somehow ruining the environment. However, what this book is happens to be far better! The concept is fantastic, and thus far the writing is excellent - perfectly edited, relatable, humorous and it moves at a good pass but sets scenes well. I also love the hint to what the title means, and if I'm right it's genius! I'll definitely finish this one!

The cover of the book caught my attention right off the bat. After reading the blurb and the OBC review I knew this is a book I would enjoy. The plot is different and I enjoyed it. After sampling the first few pages I will be finishing the rest of the book. The author's writing is so detailed and really pulled me into the characters lives. It was also well edited as I saw no errors. The OBC review definitely influenced me to want to finish the book because of the details it provided into where the story would take me.

Honestly, had I not sampled the first ten pages with the program, I would have chosen to read/sample this book because I've actually heard a lot about it online and have been wanting to read it.

I bought the book on its book of the day and I do plan to read the whole book eventually. For the reason above, and because the writing in the sample really drew me in.

The book is professionally edited. No doubt. There were no typos or grammatical errors.

As I said, the first ten pages really drew me in. I could immediately identify with Jeremy's plight. Also, each character that was introduced was very easy to picture in my mind. The author makes the reader a part of the story.

This book had an official OBC review.
