The first book I recall reading by myself out of school (Read loads at school) was The lion the witch and the wardrobe. After taking it from the library from the gazillion time, the librarian suggested I may like to try another one as mummy might be sick of reading it to me. After shooting her dead with my lazer eyes (I wished at the time) I haughtily told her that I read it myself and wished to carry on reading it for as long as I wished.

The next one I remember was The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. after that it was any Enid Blyton books I could get my hands on. Then roald dahl became my hero.

I have just read a review for Dean Koontz False Memory. Sorry to say it has put me off. I'm not a big fan of DK, but I'm always willing to give authors a try if theres a decent review to drag me in.

The best review I saw was the shortest one, which didn't really explain a thing, but it made me pick up the book and read it. It was for Michael Marshal Smiths debut book. Only Forward. The back cover said

"May we introduce you to Stark
Oh and by the way- Good luck..."

I just had to read it to see why. I absolutley loved the book and consequently became a huge fan of his books. His books are not for the light hearted prudes, who does not like smoking, swearing or violence.

If you love cats you will love MMS they seem to pop up in every book he writes.

WOW I have never heard this before. All my family are avid readers and it is greatly encouraged in every child. I find it very odd when people tell me they don't read much. I only have a few books because I used to use the library a lot and lent a lot of book to people who never gave them back, yet people reckon three book shelves is loads of books.

If that was a relative of mine I would start buying books for every birthday and Christmas just to ensure he is getting a bit of reading material.

Laurell K Hamilton has done two main series. The first is the Anita Blake, Vampire books. Anita Blake is a Vampire executioner, though she does appear to become confused at some point and starts dating vampires.
The second Series is about Faeries. Meredith Gentry is a Faery Princess. These are not pretty fae with wings who bring you wishes. These are more the fighting killing faeries. But they're still very pretty according to the descriptions given in the book.

Oh just to add these book are not for prudes, there is a lot of sex in both.

I am so glad. Dirt music received mixed reviews at the book swap site I frequent. I don't usually let reviews there change my desire to read a book but I must admit it did push it further down the list of books to read.

Wow. That is the first word that comes to mind to describe this book. Perry Moore is brillant author. "Hero" is a fantastic book about Thom, a boy who lives in a word where superheroes are real. Thom's father was once "Major Might", a superhero without superpowers. Now though, "Major Might" has fallen from his former glory and is reviled by the world. He struggles to make ends meet for him and his son. Amongst all this, Thom struggles with his idenity, discovering some very surprising things about himself. Thom carries some powerful, and painful, secrets. This is a book that tackles topics that face our world combined with things that will never happen (superheroes) in a very realistic way. Thom's journey is one that should be read by everyone.
